An endmember is an idealized, pure signature that represents a spectral class. From the ground truth in Figure 1(b), 14 panel pixels, p 11, ppppppppp 12, p 22, p 32, p 42, and p 52 are considered to be pure pixels representing five distinct pure signatures.

Figure 2 shows the endmembers extracted using two popular endmember extraction algorithms. Multispectral imaging has also found use in document and painting analysis. Multispectral imaging measures light in a small number (typically 3 to 15) of spectral bands.
